On June 30th the ABC Day The Past, The Present, The Future in Amsterdam at De Brakke Grond was the opportunity for ABC members to breathe a sigh of relief as we learned that our community will keep having the means to organize scientific and networking events.

The day started with a session on the Past of ABC: four engaging talks from ABC members and alumni, Joe Bathelt (FMG), Fleur Bouwer (FMG), Anne Marije Kaag (VU), and Harm Krugers (FNWI), who showed the impact that ABC funding made for their research and career.

For the Present we heard several short talks by Giacomo Aldegheri (FMG), Wouter Cox (FMG), Karline Janmaat together with Evy van Berlo (FNWI), Imme Lammertink (FGW), Maarten Marsman (FMG), Jorge Mejias (FNWI), and Marieke Schouwstra (FGW) about ongoing ABC projects, displaying the breadth of topics and the highly interdisciplinary focus of our research community. The discussion went on during the poster session, where we also could see the best posters from the ABC Summer School that ended one day earlier.

Finally, the Future of ABC was discussed with Birte Forstmann, Harm Krugers, Guido van Wingen, Henkjan Honing and Richard Ridderinkhof during a lively roundtable. The role of AI in brain research was debated and, even if opinions remain different, it appeared clear that we cannot ignore the ongoing revolution. The live illustrations by Hjalmar Haagsman captured the ongoing discussions and provided a fresh, out-of-the-box view of the science that was discussed during the whole day. The illustrations will soon be shared with all ABC researchers!

The day was capped by an outside dinner, during which we could mingle and engage in additional scientific discussions.

The organizers would like to thank the ABC Board of Directors and everybody who contributed, or just joined the ABC Day, and made it possible to have such a great time together. And keep an eye out for the professional portrait photos by MacSiers Fotografie that many of you had the opportunity to make!
